I remember my 40th birthday like it was yesterday. I had a huge party with loads of my friends and I was so excited to be a ‘grown up’ – ha ha. Little did I know that just a few months later, I was more ‘grown up’ than I ever expected when I was told I was post menopause. At the time, I’d hardly even heard about it and perimenopause wasn’t something talked about at all, the phrase just wasn’t used. Looking back on it now, I can laugh at the irony of not knowing about something so common in women my age. And now that I have a greater understanding of menopause, I choose to celebrate my knowledge by helping others who are not only going through the same thing but by sharing the message to women as early as possible.
The Value Of Knowledge
I am now grateful for having gone through menopause because it gives me an appreciation for all that I know now about this stage in life which is why I’m passionate about sharing what I do know with other women. All too often we’re unaware until we begin feeling these symptoms ourselves and even then there’s often confusion as to what they could be attributed to so why not talk more openly about it? For me, it was confused with cancer treatment which is why the true cause went undetected. We need more conversations around perimenopausal health and wellbeing. When we become more informed we can ask for better support and by having access to resources that can ease our minds such as natural remedies including diet modifications and exercise programs specifically tailored for perimenopausal women.
Empowerment Through Perimenopause
It’s incredibly empowering when you finally understand something after spending so much time in the dark trying to figure out what was going on with your body. For me personally, it has made me feel like my body isn’t just something I live in but rather something that listens to me and speaks back when given the chance. By celebrating perimenopause rather than fearing it, we can learn ways to navigate this new chapter with confidence while still allowing our bodies time for restorative self-care practices like massage therapy or yoga classes – ultimately getting us closer to true balance within ourselves which will help us thrive during our transition into menopause.
Helping Women With Menopause
Although there’s nothing anyone can do to stop or reverse early menopause once it has begun there are ways we can help you to feel better and understand it better. For starters, we need to de-stigmatise the conversation around menopause by openly talking about our experiences and sharing our stories with each other. We also need to start educating ourselves on the signs and symptoms of early menopause so we can recognise them when they happen and seek help if necessary. Finally, we should support each other by offering emotional support and advice wherever possible — after all, no woman should have to go through this alone.
Journaling & Menopause
This is why for my birthday, I want to give you a gift of journaling. The power of journaling is truly underestimated and particularly when your body is going through changes, it is important to document it to help you understand it. Journaling can be a great way to express our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. It can also help us to gain clarity and insight into our life and experiences. So at the end of this blog it a link for you to download a free copy of my book ‘ Beginners Journal’. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.
So it’s been over 10 birthdays since my own journey with early menopause began and I’m grateful for everything that this experience has taught me both about myself and about how important it is for us as women to come together and support each other during difficult times like these. So whilst I definitely didn’t expect or plan to be post menopausal at an early age, I’m celebrating everything that comes alongside knowing more than ever now than ever before.
