My initial reaction if someone didn’t believe you is sod ‘em (well probably more sweary than that 😉), it’s their problem if they don’t believe you, not yours however I know it goes much deeper than that so let’s figure it out. Also, in my experience most women are initially their own sceptics.
Menopause is often met with scepticism and wariness from women who are in the midst of it or have yet to experience it – crazy right? The biggest challenge my clients face when they first come to me and typically ALL women who I speak to when they first hear about what I do, say that they are too young or it won’t happen to them. Yes, you know who you are reading this 😂 .
So let me try & assure you that menopause can be something to look forward to rather than deny it is happening.
You’ve probably all seen the friend, who has been obviously battling with perimenopausal symptoms for weeks, being in total denial and suddenly decided that she’s had enough and declares she will never, ever go through menopause. She’s made up her mind and nothing could possibly change it…or could it?
Well sorry (not sorry) to be blunt but if you are a woman, you will go through it – that part isn’t a choice but how you deal with it is your choice.
Remember that I’d gone through menopause at 40, so I’m telling you from real life experience, no, you possibly aren’t too young.
Tip 1: Embrace the Journey
Menopause is a journey of self-discovery. It provides an opportunity for women to take ownership of their bodies and understand their health in a way they haven’t before. Instead of seeing menopause as something to be feared, it can be seen as an adventure full of potential growth and discovery.
Tip 2: Educate Yourself
The more you know about the process of menopause and the changes that come along with it, the better prepared you will be to handle any situation that comes your way. Educating yourself about menopause will also help you to become a source of support for your friend during this time in her life. So do a bit of research on the subject.
Tip 3: Remind Them Of The Benefits
One important thing to remember when trying to sell menopause to others is that there are some major benefits associated with it too. For instance, after going through menopause, many women report feeling happier, healthier and more confident than before, not to mention all those wonderful physical benefits like less anxiety or fewer acne breakouts. Reminding them of these positive aspects can help make the thought of going through menopause much more manageable for your sceptic friend.
Tip 4: Embrace Your Inner Entrepreneur
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of selling menopause, let’s start with an important reminder: You are your own best advocate. Menopause is a natural process that every woman goes through. It doesn’t have to be seen as a negative experience, it can actually open up new opportunities for growth and development. Own your power and use it to make positive changes in your life.
Tip 5: Create Your Own Narrative
What do you want people to think about when they hear the word “menopause?” Take control of the conversation around menopause by creating your own narrative. Write articles, blog posts, or even entire books about what it means to go through menopause from your unique perspective. By doing so, you will create an empowering dialogue that celebrates all that comes with this stage of life.
Tip 6: Embrace Holistic Health Practices
Menopause is not just a physical experience, it’s also mental and emotional. Embracing holistic health practices such as yoga, meditation, and journaling can help you manage symptoms like hot flashes and mood swings while also nourishing your body and mind. Additionally, eating nutritious food and getting regular exercise helps keep energy levels up during this time of transition.
Tip 7: Focus on the Benefits, Not the Drawbacks
When selling menopause to someone who’s sceptical, it’s important to focus on the positives, not the negatives. Many people think of menopause as being synonymous with hot flashes and mood swings but there are so many benefits too. Plus not all women get these symptoms so why stress about something that might not happen? Once you get through perimenopause, you won’t have to worry about periods or PMS anymore. You can say goodbye to tampons and pads (hurray). And while those dreaded hot flashes may still happen occasionally, if at all, they should become less frequent over time.
Tip 8: Embrace Your Inner Warrior
Finally, don’t forget that many women, rightly so, view menopause as an opportunity for growth and transformation. This is your chance to embrace your inner warrior, to become stronger mentally, physically and spiritually than ever before. Instead of focusing on all the things that can go wrong during menopause (which let’s face it, are in your head,) frame this time in your life as a chance for personal growth and development. You can explore hobbies you haven’t tried before or take on new challenges at work. The possibilities are endless.
Menopause doesn’t have to be something scary or intimidating – it can actually be quite liberating. Look closer, there are plenty of amazing opportunities that come with this exciting new chapter in life. With proper preparation and knowledge of available treatments, you can make this transition smoother than ever before. By embracing holistic health practices such as yoga, meditation, journaling, eating nutritious food and exercising regularly, owning your power and creating your own narrative around menopause, you can take control of this process and make it something positive instead of something scary or intimidating.
So don’t be afraid & in denial, embrace this opportunity for growth and development. Don’t forget that every woman experiences menopause differently, what works for one person may not work for another. So don’t let anyone dictate how you should feel about this stage in life, instead, embrace it as an opportunity for growth and learning. After all, no one knows what’s best for you more than yourself.
And remember: You got this, keep being a badass x
