Hi, I'm the owner and founder of Menopositive and here to help you ditch the witch and get classy, sassy and a little bit badassy too.

Valentine’s Day is a time to show appreciation for the people in our lives who we love and care about. But why should that appreciation be limited to romantic partners? This year, let’s dedicate Valentine’s Day to showing love and appreciation to you, women in midlife – the amazing ladies who are rocking this stage of life.

It is notorious for being a day that singles dread and those pesky loved up couples feel obliged to mark with something special. This year, let’s take back the day and make it about loving yourself instead. If you’re a woman in midlife, chances are you have plenty of reasons to be proud of all that you have achieved. Women in midlife are amazing and they should love themselves any day but let’s make it bigger & better over Valentines day.

Take Time To Treat Yourself Right

Don’t underestimate the power of solitude. Whether it’s taking yourself on a walk or settling into your favourite chair with a good book, taking time to relax by yourself can be incredibly refreshing. When was the last time you allowed yourself to just be? Think of it as permission to pause, breathe deeply, and enjoy your own company.   Many women in midlife don’t pay enough attention to their own needs, especially if they are busy looking after family members or working full time. Make it your mission to treat yourself right by carving out some “me-time” on a regular basis.  When was the last time you did something nice for yourself? Make Valentine’s Day the day you start then.

Indulge in Something Sweet

Who says you have to have someone else buy you chocolate or flowers? Treating yourself doesn’t have to mean something extravagant, it could just be something small like buying yourself a piece of candy or that new lipstick shade you’ve been eyeing up. Do what makes you feel good – that’s what really matters.

Do Something You Enjoy

It’s so easy to get caught up in work and responsibilities throughout the week – but today is different. Take this opportunity to do something that brings joy into your life – maybe it’s going for a run outdoors, or maybe it’s cozying up with a cup of tea and watching your favourite movie. Whatever activity makes you happy, go do it.

Midlife Women Are A Force To Be Reckoned With

Women in midlife have seen it all and done it all. We have experienced joy, heartache, success, failure, laughter and tears. Over the years we have developed resilience, inner strength and wisdom beyond our years. We know what we want out of life and we go after it with determination and passion.  We are strong role models for our children as well as friends from younger generations looking at us for guidance.  In addition to being fierce advocates for ourselves, midlife women also lend a helping hand to those who need it most – whether through mentorship programs or volunteering our time and energy towards causes that matter to us most.

It’s Time To Celebrate Ourselves

The reality is that midlife women don’t get enough credit for taking on so much in their lives while often juggling multiple roles at home and work. So this year on Valentine’s Day let’s make sure we show ourselves some love too.  Whether it’s trying a new hobby or going on an adventure with friends – take some time out of your busy schedule to focus on YOU this Valentine’s Day. And if you’re feeling extra daring why not try something totally outside your comfort zone like skydiving or bungee jumping? There are plenty of ways you can treat yourself this Valentine’s Day – the possibilities are endless.

Be Proud of Your Accomplishments

Midlife can be such an incredibly rewarding time – think about all that you have achieved so far. Whether it’s raising great kids who are now adults or finally getting a promotion at work after years of hard work and dedication, taking stock of your accomplishments can help boost your self-esteem and remind you that you can do anything you set your mind to.

Surround Yourself with Good People

It can be easy to get bogged down in negative thoughts when things don’t go as planned. That’s why it is important to surround yourself with people who will lift you up and encourage positive thinking – friends and family who will support your goals and celebrate successes with you.  Spend time with these good people, they will help remind you what is truly important in life.

Midlife women have earned some self-love this Valentine’s Day.  Take the opportunity this February 14th to celebrate yourself for all that you have achieved thus far in your journey through life. After all, you deserve it. Show yourself some love by treating yourself to something special – maybe even something totally unexpected – whatever will make YOU happy.  It’s important to remember that taking care of yourself means taking care of others too. So give yourself the gift of self-care today and enjoy every moment of it.

Self-love is essential at any age, especially during midlife where women need support more than ever. This Valentine’s Day don’t focus on what other people may think; instead, focus on loving yourself first and foremost.  Spend some quality “me time” doing activities that make your heart sing and bring happiness into your life. Remember, loving yourself takes practice, so take every opportunity given, even if it’s simply observing Valentine’s Day on your own terms.

There is so much fulfilment waiting for us at midlife if we take the time to appreciate all our accomplishments. Let’s make this February 14th one we look forward to every year – not as a reminder of what we don’t have but as an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come.

Happy Valentine’s Day x
